Preparedness

If a disaster strikes your area, you need to be ready.  At the very least, you should have a Bug Out Bag packed and ready to go at all times.  If you are required to evacuate your house at a moments notice, you are going to need to be able to grab a bag that has all the supplies you need to survive for at least 72 hours.

Most people think they don’t need to worry about it because they have friends or family that will help them if the unfortunate time should come.  The problem with that line of thinking is, what if your friends or family are in the same predicament?  Or worse, what if you can’t use your car to get there and the phones are down.  Not to mention, do you really want to be that person that shows up on your friends doorstep with absolutely nothing but your hand out?  Or would you rather be the person that shows up with a three day supply of everything you need to survive long enough to figure out what is going on and how to put a plan together?  I can promise you, your friend or family will be a lot more comfortable with letting you crash there knowing that you didn’t show up with the intention of depleting whatever supplies they may have in the house!

Of course, there are many other things that fall into the category of Preparedness, but I think a Bug Out Bag is probably one of the most important.  In time, we will try to identify as many different things as we can for getting yourself prepared for any event.
